By Danny Dragin
My Isaiah Thomas depression is still somewhat lingering but definitely getting better. It’s like a break up; every time I think of Isaiah or see a picture of him on twitter my heart just kind of hurts a little bit.
This past week I had the best alcohol soaked idea ever... “I should start a GoFundMe page for the Celtics to resign IT”. If you think it would work please tweet @ me for support. If you just want to kick this thing off right away, Venmo me @DannyDragin, I’ll make sure the money gets there.
So there is a lot that I need to unpack after this week. My mind has been firing in so many different directions. I really don’t even know how to start this blog.
I’m just gonna start by acknowledging this picture. I can’t believe this is official, I can’t believe these two are on the Celtics. This was the must needed rebound (Unintentional Basketball pun) after the IT break up. I think this team already speaks for itself, and I think everybody’s expectations for this team are generally the same. This is definitely a team that can beat the Cavs, but when it comes to the Warriors, they have a lot of ground to cover.
I don’t think Danny is done just yet, I think he’s got one more trick up his sleeve. Honestly I want Anthony Davis bad, I want him really bad. The big 3 of Kyrie, Hayward, and AD could go toe to toe with Paul Pierce, KG, and Ray Allen easy. I might even give them the upper hand.
Those 3 can give the Warriors some serious problems. The only thing that might stand in our way is if the Cavs can obtain Boogie somehow. Honestly it’s very likely that if one of those guys move then the other one will get moved as well. The pelicans could just say “Fuck it let’s go Danny ainge mode and get a bunch of money picks for these guys”. Picking up Boogie would also be a great move by the cavs because that might actually make Lebron want to stay.
The only problem I have with the Anthony Davis acquisition is the fact that we’d probably have to give up either Jaylen Brown or Jayson Tatum and I really don’t want to do that. I think both of those guys are the real deal and they could really take this team to another level in the next couple of years.
The most underappreciated asset to this team though has got to be Marcus Smart. Marcus Smart is a huge playmaker who I think is about to have an incredible season. Earlier this week it came out that Marcus had lost 20 lbs since the season ended and he said “It’s a new me”. His game 3 against the Cavs was incredible. I feel like that game was a big eye opener as to what his limits are, both to himself and the rest of the league.
Theres two other players that I think are gonna have great seasons for us and that is Marcus Morris and Terry Rozier. Morris will probably start at PF which is perfect because I think he plays a very good style that will work well with Kyrie.
He runs the floor really well and is an not a bad shooter at all. If he can be a little better than Jae Crowder from the perimeter then he’ll have done his job. Also he’s a firey defender with a big body which will come in handy when it comes to stopping the likes of Lebron James and Kevin Durant.
When it comes to Terry Rozier I have very high expectations. I think playing with someone like Kyrie Irving will do a lot of good for him. Also his play style is very similar to Kyrie so there won’t be a big transition when he comes off the bench.
I genuinely think that Terry Rozier has the potential to be a premier PG in the NBA. Maybe have a Mike Conley type of career.
If we could just rent Andrew Bogut for this upcoming season I think he would fix a lot of our problems, because a lot of our problems begin with our inability to rebound. Also Bogut has shown that he can be a key piece during a playoff run. Then we could also use him as a trade tool when we wanna go all in on Anthony Davis, allowing us to maybe keep Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown. The ideal trade for Anthony Davis in that scenario would probably be Andrew Bogut, Al Horford, and Terry Rozier plus maybe 2 picks, definitely 1 at least.
I’m so fucking hype for this season. For those of you that are still getting over the IT trade, I think it might be time to move on, because this team is about to make some serious noise and if you can’t get excited for something like that then are you really a Celtics Fan at all.
PPS... I’m sick of this beardless Kyrie shit. I need Bearded Kyrie.
